Gov Written Answer – CMEC-CSA (Work & Pensions: Children: Maintenance)

29/04/2011

McCartney, Karl raised an interesting point.

Subjects: CMEC-CSA; Money; NRP Rights; Parenting

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

(1) what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the Child Support Agency and its successor in ensuring appropriate maintenance payments are made; and what changes he proposes to make under the reformed statutory child maintenance system;

(2) what steps he is taking to improve the (a) efficiency and (b) effectiveness of the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission;

(3) what steps he is taking to ensure that the reformed statutory child maintenance system will provide resident parents with (a) an efficient and (b) a coherent service.

Comment by #wco: £460 million (40% cost to collect) … a shocking waste of money. If they invested this money in promoting, encouraging and allowing NRP’s to see their children then we are sure the maintenance “problem” will be reduced dramatically.

Add onto this the costs for legal aid, judicial costs, capital costs for court buildings and all the other ancilliary costs then this figure will probably exceed £1 billion per year.

Gov Written Answer – Parenting (Education: Parenting Classes)

28/04/2011

Ruane, Chris raised an interesting point.

Subjects: Parenting; Childcare; Education; Healthcare; SocialWorkers

To ask the Secretary of State for Education

(1) what steps he is taking to deliver parenting classes within the school curriculum;

(2) whether he has made an estimate of the number of schools which offer parenting classes to their pupils.

Comment by #wco: All parents-to-be should be made to attend parenting classes.

We should be including the same level of Parenting Class and care requirements to expecting parents as is afforded to and required by Foster Carers.

Only by education will society understand that having a child is not a passport to a new home or a lifestyle choice. In addition, with mandatory parenting classes, their children should be better cared for and a better understanding of the commitment, time and expense required to look after a child.
